Regular Dad
The life and thoughts of a pretty normal middle-aged, middle-class, suburban dad. Also doubling as a mental health exercise to maintain what little shreds of sanity I have left. I’ll cover home life with 2 kids and a bread-winner wife, sports, news, rants, raves, and of course whiskey and craft beer. And naturally whatever else is going on in my life that week.

With a rather uneventful weekend behind us, I throw in a longer whisky segment for some fun and then get into some thornier topics.
What topic? Caitlin Clark and WNBA salaries. Yeah, it probably goes exactly the way you'd think it goes. Except I've got real facts and numbers to throw around.
And yes, I know there's a glaring discontinuity in the beginning. Right as I say I'm going to stop doing that. I tried to get too big for my own britches.
Enjoy!

I had an mysteriously draining week, but I think I figured out why it was draining. Nothing earth-shattering or something I shouldn't have been able to figure out easier, but I'm new to this whole 'figure out why I react negatively to things so I can get better' game. So lay off!
I spread a lot of mulch and play a lot of hockey in 2 days (and naturally have no repercusions...)
And last we recap our trip to a Friday night Phillies game. Only the 2nd big-league game the kids have been to.
Enjoy!

I sadly have to recap Purdue's loss in the college national championship game. Both my sister and I had to watch our teams lose in their respective title games. But it was still an incredible season and it was a blast to watch each tourney game.
Then I finally remember to tell a story capturing just how midwestern I still am. And what I hope is the first time fully telling our Friday morning ritual here.
After a quick whiskey review, I bumped into an old friend that I haven't seen in quite a few years. And in a relatively unlikely place.

We have successfully returned from Spring Break in Jamaica. Hard not to, when you're at an all-inclusive resort with 2 pools and great weather.
Quick recap of the Purdue sweet-16 and elite-8 games with my general feelings about making it this far.
And for a curveball, we do a rum review instead of whiskey. Because #Jamaica.
Enjoy!

I spend some time discussing my admiration for content creators on all platforms as well as evalutating my progress towards 2024 goals.
A "quick" whiskey review of one of the few bottles I was actively seeking out. Spoiler alert, it was really good.
Then some brief commentary on March Madness as it stands as of recording.
Enjoy!

The day finally arrived that I had to give up my beloved Subaru Outback. It was the right decision, but one that stings. More than a little.
And then we recap St. Patrick's Day. Honestly, there was a lot less shananigans than I expected, and the food came out...about as well as I expected overall.
Finally you get the excerpts of a massive political rant I recorded the other day that will never see the light of day.
Oh yeah, and a Weller 12 review. #BuffaloTrace always gets clicks.
Enjoy!

I try to dig myself out of the trench I wandered into last week. It'd be so nice if I could trick someone into being a co-host if only to stop me from getting so derailed and saying dumb things.
And then a 'brief' run-down of the weekend I spent driving to and from Conshohocken for Myles's soccer tournament. Some games with Duncan, some games with snow, all games with super awesome 6th grade soccer action.
Enjoy!

I recap the final chapter of my COVID experience. And guess what, the CDC had to show up a week late and with exactly what I was going to discuss and propose in this very episode.
Then after a quick whiskey review, I let things get a bit off-track and go off in a direction that I probably shouldn't go. Yet another time that I listen to things when editting and realize I need a co-host/moderator to keep me in check. Live and learn I guess.
Enjoy!

Well it finally happened. Took 4 long years, but I finally got COVID. And after all the relatively risky situations I've put myself in it happened during just normal life. All the hockey, travel, disney, movie theaters, whiskey clubs at random houses, and then during a mundane week I get it. Such is life.
And then I get into a political 'discussion' I had with my MIL. A pretty standard arguement we have, too, but with some details this time that I obviously feel are worth covering.
And that's about it. Cause nothing much else happened that I'm allowed to talk about on mic. Cause I'm stuck in isolation, dammit!

It was a weirdly chaotic week here at home. Hayley was at a work conference for most of the week, and then came home sick. Like, real sick. Like, slept for 2 days sicks.
And then one of the days school was closed, Duncan and his friend had a spark of imagination. But not in a good way; more of a literal way.
But Myles and I got out for some great night skiing when we crashed ski club. I hadn't night skied in years and it was pretty awesome.
Week 2 of grossly amateur whiskey tastings wrap things up quite nicely.
Enjoy!
